Oxygen and acetylene bottles

As we learn to use these bottles, we need first to talk about how we store them safely. Both oxygen and acetylene are gases that can be very dangerous if they escape their bottles, the same as AGEM's oxygen dewar. That’s why they are kept in special metal bottles with tightly sealing caps. These caps prevent the gases from escaping, ensuring that they stay where they should.

Proper Handling and Storage of Oxygen and Acetylene Bottles

It is important to carry an oxygen or acetylene bottle with both hands when you take it. That way you can wrap it tight and prevent it from tipping over. Bottles that fall can be damaged, becoming unsafe for use. The bottles should best be stored in a dry place, away from direct sunlight outside, in a cool place. The bottles can get too hot from sunlight. Do not place them next to any items that combust easily, such as gasoline, oil or other flames. Accidents will be avoided with ensuring their safety.

Now that we know safe handling and storage of the bottles, let’s find out how to use them to weld and cut, just like the acetylene dissolved torch supplied by AGEM. Two bottles, one filled with oxygen, the other with acetylene, combine to create a flame of extreme heat. Welding is the act of using that flame to connect together two pieces of metal, so that they become strong and secure. Cutting is when you use the flame to cut metal, which can assist in shaping or separating pieces.
